The Herms 29cm Shoulder Birkin (sometimes called the Shoulder Birkin 29 or Shoulder Birkin Light 29) is a modern reinterpretation of the classic Birkin bag with a twist. Originally conceived by designer Jean-Paul Gaultier in 2004 as a larger 42cm Shoulder Birkin, the new 29cm version retains the iconic Birkin look including the flap with two sangles (straps) and turn-lock (touret) closure, clochette with lock and keys, and double rolled handles but with elongated handles and a shortened height for shoulder carry. Gaultiers innovation was to extend the Birkins handles and reduce its height so it can fit comfortably under the arm, effectively creating an east-west Birkin silhouette.
In the current 29cm model, the proportions are more compact and streamlined: approximately 29cm wide, ~1518cm tall, and ~13cm deep (about 11.5 6.25 5.2) with a handle drop around 1415cm. This gives it a squat, rectangular profile compared to a standard Birkin. Despite the smaller size, it still offers a decent interior capacity similar to a Birkin 30, but in a sleeker shape.
